Most women know the pain of period cramps. The pain can go from mildly annoying to absolutely unbearable, and we want to find a way to combat it. Most women take forms of pain killers to make the pain more bearable, but over time, your body can become more and more immune to it. What that means is that your body gets use to the medicine in your system and needs more and more as time goes on. Plus, taking pain killers long term can damage your liver or other organs in the body if you aren’t careful. Long-term painkiller abuse can lead to significant cardiovascular issues, heart attacks and heart disease. Stomach and intestinal issues can occur even after a day or two of taking painkillers. Painkiller abuse can lead to constipation, bloating, abdominal distention, bowel obstructions and hemorrhoids. Though taking them in emergencies or short term is not too dangerous, you always want to be careful with the amount you take. So, you may be asking, “What should I use instead? I need something to help the pain.” There are alternatives to try that are a lot safer to take long term, such as CBD. In this blog, we will discuss how CBD can be a better alternative to general pain killers and how to works in your body and brain receptors.

The Endocannabinoid system (ECS) is mostly active in pain control at the central nervous system level. It is also active in the peripheral systems preventing painful and itchy symptoms brought on by inflammation caused by all sorts of conditions. CBD is also able to modulate pain thresholds and slow the release of inflammatory molecules. This is the same exact way that Advil works! In fact, cannabinoids synergistically work with other body systems that regulate pain, working to get our bodies moving and feeling better faster. So, CBD arguably works. Some CBD users have found that full spectrum CBD products carrying a small amount of THC (0.3%) or broad spectrum has been extremely beneficial for treating pain while still benefitting from the “entourage effect” of all the different cannabinoids and terpenes working synergistically in the body. Our AHS 750 broad spectrum or our AHS 3000 full spectrum tinctures would be the best alternative for dealing with any pain or discomfort you may be experiencing while on your cycle.

When replacing Ibuprofen with CBD, the user will notice similar relief, without any of the negative health risks, plus the additional therapeutic and health benefits that come with CBD. If you are looking for a natural pain relieving remedy, then CBD may be your answer. Along with being good for anti- inflammatory purposes, it can also help with anxiety and mood balance. Aside from supporting a healthy
nervous system and reducing anxiety and depression, CBD is also able to increase your energy levels. This is helpful during periods because your body is achy and you want to rest, also feeling uncomfortable and sluggish. Luckily, CBD can help combat both the lack of energy, but also mood balancing. This is due to CBD’s ability to increase blood flow throughout the body. CBD interacts with the brain in a way where your brain is able to stabilize itself and—– Most women have unbearable cramps almost every single month, and it can be hard to function in day to day life.

CBD also interacts with the brain in a way that it can help maintain your general mood. During periods, some women experience mood swings that can come on suddenly and can’t help what they’re feeling in the moment. It’s hard to really know what to do during said moments, the hormones in our body get thrown off and you feel completely out of it, some months much more than others. Though CBD can
help you feel a little more control of yourself and how your body feels. CBD interacts with your brain receptors that controls things such as pain, mood, and even sleep, as mentioned before, and levels out the chemicals. Thus, when you take CBD, your mood may improve, and your entire body will feel better overall. Fun fact: it has been indicated that CBD produces the same effects as some other bipolar medication and antidepressants. Always consult your primary care physician before taking CBD.

Millions of people are affected by OCD, approximately 1 in 40 adults in the United States (about 2.3% of the population) and 1 in 100 children have the condition. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions).

Treatment for OCD includes cognitive behavioral therapy and prescribed psychiatric medications. Medications used to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder include Clomipramine, Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Paroxetine and Sertraline. Each prescribed medication contains negative side effects that include nausea, anxiety, insomnia, weight changes, memory issues, sweating, numbness, vision changes, headaches, dizziness, tremors, weakness and sexual issues.

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant known for its potential therapeutic effects. Studies show that CBD may help improve symptoms of OCD without the negative side effects of prescribed medications. Symptoms from disorders like OCD, epilepsy, dementia and ADHD may be improved with CBD supplementation because they affect the limbic region of the brain.

CBD increases production signaling while inhibiting the breakdown of anandamide. Anandamide is a natural antidepressant commonly known as the “happiness hormone” because of its ability to regulate mood as well as sensations of fear, stress and happiness.OCD creates a loop of intrusive perception and overt behavior.

The more intrusive thoughts, the more compulsive behaviors and as they multiply, they strengthen the cycle. What CBD does for OCD is potentially soothing panic. In OCD, panic follows an intrusive thought and leads to some automatically compulsive responses and CBD can potentially reduce this response.

Our AHS 1500mg tincture can be taken sublingually and is perfect for alleviating symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Always consult your primary care physician before starting a new treatment.

Our team of specialists are always available to provide you with education and assist you with any questions regarding CBD.

The United States is struggling with an opioid epidemic that’s claimed more than 300,000 lives since it began. Addiction is a complex brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence.

Opioid addiction is characterized by physical and psychological reliance on opioids, a substance found in certain prescription pain medications like Codeine, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Oxycodone and illegal drugs like heroine. Treatment for opioid addiction include drug detoxification, different types of drug related therapies and prescribed medications.

Medications used to treat opioid dependence include Naloxone, Buprenorphine and Methadone. Each prescribed medication contains negative side effects that include dizziness, weakness, body aches, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, fever, agitation, numbness, insomnia, vomiting, fainting, hallucinations, high or low blood pressure, abnormal brain functions, cardiac arrythmias, respiratory failure, seizures, addiction, coma and death.

Studies have shown that CBD may help reduce opioid cravings and anxiety in those with an opioid addiction without the negative side effects of prescribed medications. The physiological cravings that accompany addiction, along with memory cues and environment triggers specific to each person can cause a recurrence of opioid use or relapse.

CBD can possibly help people deal with environmental cue-induced cravings and anxiety by reducing heart rate and the levels of stress hormones brought on by the sights, sounds, and people that trigger them.

Our AHS 1500mg tincture can be taken sublingually and is perfect for helping to alleviate the symptoms of opioid dependence. Always consult your primary care physician before starting a new treatment.

If you are familiar with the benefits of CBD as a plant-based medicine, you likely aware of the power to reduce inflammation, relieve chronic pain, help sleep, lower anxiety, and even get your dog to stop barking so much when you leave the house. Well this miracle plant that works off your body’s natural endocannabinoid system can add a new medicinal benefit to the very long list of conditions it can help.

A study was recently released from the American Journal of Psychiatry, that suggests proper doses of CBD can relieve stress and anxiety that is often the trigger of relapse in addiction.

It has been well documented in recent studies that working off the power of the body’s endocannabinoid system, CBD has the ability to bring the body to homeostasis(a state of chemical equilibrium), leading to impressive results of reducing anxiety, boosting moods, and calming inflammation. A documentation of proving more and more results of lowering anxiety and cortisol (the body’s stress chemical) and boosting serotonin (the body’s happiness chemical) researchers wanted to take it a step further to see how this may work for addicts detoxing off prescription drugs. Our country is facing a detrimental problem with opioid and heroin addiction. Both of these drugs, intensely addicting, are extremely challenging to kick because of the likelihood for users to relapse to due cravings triggered by stress and anxiety. “The intense craving is what drives drug use,” said Yasmin Hurd, the lead researcher on the newly released study and director of the Addiction Institute of Mount Sinai. “If we can dampen that [craving], that can greatly reduce the chance of relapse and overdose risk.”

In the midst of a public health epidemic, the only current treatment for opioid addicts, is more medication; methadone and buprenorphine. These drugs have saved many lives, but there is still a large gap in accessibility, as they are prescription medications. With the hope to find alternative solutions, more holistic and natural, researchers turned to CBD.

The Study:

Hurd, choose participants of the study who had stopped using heroin, but were still vulnerable to relapse. Half of the participants were given medical grade CBD and the other half a placebo in as a double blind study, meaning neither the participants nor researchers knew who received which treatment. Participants were tested by watching videos of people using drugs and other drug-related images that would likely trigger a cravings and stress. During the treatment, participants were monitored for positive and negative affect, cognition, and physiological status.

The Results:

Participants that had been given the placebo reacted strongly to the situation. Heart rates went up, and high levels cortisol were measured. Those who had been given the CBD had a different experience. “Those who received the CBD, they showed a reduction of their craving and they also showed a reduction of their anxiety,” says Hurd.

Our Take:

As CBD continues to prove to be a medicine that can treat a variety of ailments, disease and sickness, it is important to consider factors such a dosage, grade, other medications, and strength of the CBD. At A Healthy Solution we make sure that every client is consulted and dosed through our Registered Nurse to receive the best experience with this medicinal healing. Something to note is that the CBD used in the study was a high dose, pharmaceutical grade, pure form of the compound. This type of product isn’t available at medical dispensaries at this time. Currently, AHS does have a program that we use CBD product in line with the products of this study. To learn more about our detox program please contact Lorraine.
