We all have aches, pains, soreness, many kinds of physical ailments. That soreness can become persistent in your day-to-day life, so what can you do to relieve that? What’s something you can do without taking too many pharmaceutical medicines? In this blog, we will talk about the condition, Glaucoma, what it is and how it can affect someone and what CBN can do to relieve the pain.

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can cause blindness. With all types of glaucoma, the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged, usually due to high eye pressure. The most common type of glaucoma (open-angle glaucoma) often has no symptoms other than slow vision loss. Angle-closure glaucoma, although rare, is a medical emergency and its symptoms include eye pain with nausea and sudden visual disturbance. Treatment includes eye drops, medications, and surgery. While glaucoma cannot be cured, but you can stop it from progressing. It usually develops slowly and can take 15 years for untreated early-onset glaucoma to develop into blindness. However, if the pressure in the eye is high, the disease is likely to develop more rapidly.

Of all of the cannabinoids examined, CBN has demonstrated the most optimal effect of neuroprotection. Furthermore, CBN also demonstrated intraocular pressure reduction capability. An example of the effect of glaucoma on field of vision. There are studies to test the ability of CBN to provide protection to the neurons at the back of the eye, referred to as “neuroprotection”, and reduce the intraocular pressure in the eye. Doctors have compared several cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, to determine which cannabinoid was the best candidate for the treatment of glaucoma. Of all of the cannabinoids examined, CBN demonstrated the most optimal effect of neuroprotection. Furthermore, CBN also exhibited intraocular pressure reduction capability.

CBN, also known as Cannabinol, is a cannabinoid that have been seen and identified from the cannabis plant. Although it acts a lot like CBD, its origin is different, as it is the product of oxidization. Manufacturers expose THC to heat and light, which breaks it down, leaving behind CBN. Because of this, no strains of cannabis contain high levels of CBN themselves. CBN comes from the breakdown of the psychoactive cannabinoid THC, while it can be mildly psychoactive itself, it does not produce a high like THC at all. CBN is created when THC-A oxidizes.

Here are a few of the potential benefits of CBN currently being explored in research. Studies on CBN have found that it may be a potent antibacterial agent. In lab settings, CBN was tested on strains of MRSA bacteria that are resistant to traditional antibiotics. Researchers found it to be a potent antibacterial agent against these resistant strains. CBN may also be a powerful neuroprotectant. In one rodent study, researchers used CBN as a treatment for ALS and found that it was able to delay the onset of the condition.

Cannabinoids can also be effective anti-inflammatories. CBN, though not as widely used for anti-inflammatory
purposes as CBD or THC, may have similar abilities to treat a variety of inflammatory ailments. A 2009 study on cannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs, for example, identified CBN as a possible treatment for inflammatory disorders such as allergic asthma. Research has also revealed that CBN can treat glaucoma by reducing inflammation that causes intraocular pressure. CBN can be used effectively as a sleep aid or sedative. In addition to its effectiveness as a sleep aid, CBN has recently been identified as a potential painkiller. As previously mentioned, CBN has different mechanisms of action than CBD and THC.

It is considered a weak CB1 partial agonist, which means it binds directly to the receptor but induces much lower effects compared to a full agonist. In fact, CBN has been shown to only produce approximately 10% of the activity of THC. Rather than alleviate pain by way of CB1 or CB2 receptors, CBN releases peptides from sensory nerves, activating an alternative nerve mechanism to achieve the same ends.

Some products at AHS that we carry with CBN include our Sleep Well CBD/CBN Gummies, Coastal Clouds CBD:CBN Sleep Capsules as well as Coastal Clouds CBD:CBN pre-rolls.
