What is pericardial effusion?
Pericardial effusion is a medical disease where a sac-like structure called the pericardium – which supports the heart, continues to build fluid rapidly. A patient with Pericardial effusion could withhold 150- 200ml of fluid whilst the average healthy patient will only have about 15-50ml. In most cases the disease could be life-threatening as too much fluid causes cardiac arrest -or heart attack. If the build up of fluid happens too quickly the patient is at risk of heart failure. The fluid heavy sac disperses a large weight onto the heart causing it to have trouble working accordingly. Much of our light-headedness stems from low blood pressure, then shock where the body has finally reached its limit.

Symptoms To Watch For:

Sudden collapse

Very low blood pressure

Light-headedness

Chest pain or discomfort

Muffled heart sounds

Jugular vein distension

Shortness of breath, restlessness

Causes:
In most if not all cases Pericardial Effusion is caused by immune system malfunctions -or general body displacement.

1. Infections (viral, bacterial, or tuberculosis)

Viral infections (like coxsackievirus, HIV, or influenza) are the most common cause. They irritate the pericardium, leading to inflammation and fluid buildup.

Bacterial infections are less common but more severe — can cause purulent (pus-filled) effusions.

Tuberculosis (TB) can cause chronic effusions, especially in countries where TB is more common.

2. Inflammatory diseases (Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc.)

These are autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues — including the pericardium.

This leads to chronic inflammation, which can result in fluid buildup over time.

3. Cancer (Metastasis to the pericardium)

Certain cancers, like lung, breast, lymphoma, or leukemia, can spread to the pericardium.

Tumors cause irritation, leakage from blood vessels, or block lymph drainage — all leading to effusion..

These are often large and can be bloody (called hemorrhagic effusions).

4. Kidney failure (uremia)

When the kidneys fail, toxins build up in the blood (uremia).

These toxins irritate the pericardium, leading to what’s called uremic pericarditis, which can cause large effusions.

5. Heart surgery or trauma

Surgery near the heart can disturb the pericardium, leading to inflammation and fluid buildup.

Trauma (like a car accident or stab wound) can cause blood to collect in the pericardial sac — a dangerous condition called hemopericardium.

6. Medications or Radiation Therapy

Drugs like hydralazine, isoniazid, or some chemotherapy agents can cause drug-induced lupus or direct irritation.

Radiation to the chest (for cancer) can damage the pericardium, causing chronic inflammation and fluid accumulation.

How CBD will help!
CBD may help manage pericardial effusion, especially when it’s caused by inflammation or autoimmune conditions, through its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. It interacts with the endocannabinoid system, particularly CB2 receptors on immune cells, which can reduce the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (small proteins released by certain cells in your body — especially immune cells — that act like messengers to help regulate the immune system and inflammation). This helps calm the inflammation around the pericardium, potentially slowing or preventing further fluid buildup. In autoimmune-related effusions (like those from lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), CBD may help regulate the immune system’s overactivity, reducing the attack on the heart lining.

More Benefits:

1. Relieves Chest Discomfort or Pain
– Acts on pain receptors and may ease inflammation-related chest pressure

2. Reduce Anxiety and Stress
– Helps calm the nervous system, which may be helpful for patients with chronic or cancer- related effusions

3. Improves Sleep and Rest
– Supports better sleep in patients dealing with chronic illness or discomfort

4. Potential Antioxidant Effects
– May protect heart tissues from oxidative stress during inflammation

A Healthy Solution Recommends:

5000mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil (tincture)
Kurativ CBD:CBG Gummies (watermelon or bears)

The Lupus Foundation of America cites that up to 1.5 million people are living with Lupus and 16,000 new cases are reported every day.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack its organs and tissues. Lupus is characterized by inflammation, often affecting the joints, kidneys, brain, blood cells, lungs, and the heart. A facial rash also develops, which resembles the wings of a butterfly.

Lupus occurs commonly in women aged 15-44 years old. However, some people are born with lupus genes, which may be triggered by infections, sunlight, and prescription drugs.

Most treatments are designed to reduce organ damage and pain, manage flares, balance hormones, and regulate the immune system activity; not to cure the disease.

Medications used to treat lupus include Cyclosporine, Azathioprine, Belimumab, Hydroxychloroquine, Methotrexate and Prednisone. Each prescribed medication contains negative side effects that include high blood pressure, blood clots in kidneys, abdominal pain, acne, tremors, headaches, diarrhea, rash, fever, muscle aches, liver damage, dizziness, nausea, sore throat, depression, insomnia, vomiting, loss of appetite, mood changes and hair loss.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant known for its potential therapeutic effects.Studies show that CBD may help alleviate the symptoms of lupus without the harmful side effects of prescribed medications.

CBD runs interference in your central nervous system and the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD pushes things along or out of the way, so those systems can function with balance.

It makes a major contribution to reducing inflammation, improving rest, redeploying hormones, and reducing the absorption of anandamide, the “bliss” molecule.

CBD infused products offer relief from fatigue, pain, and more when used properly as part of a holistic approach to help manage lupus symptoms. A 3000mg Tincture Oil can be taken sublingually along with 1000mg CBG Gummies to help alleviate the symptoms of lupus.

Always consult with your primary care physician before starting a new treatment.

Our team of specialists are always available to provide you with education and assist you with any questions you may have regarding CBD
