What Parents and Teens Need to Know About Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome

Hey there! If you’re a parent or a teen who uses cannabis (THC), there’s something important to know about a condition called Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS). It’s a term you might not have heard before, but understanding it can help keep you healthy. Let’s break it down in simple terms.

What is Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome?
Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) is a condition that can happen if someone uses cannabis(THC) heavily over a long period. The main symptoms are severe nausea and vomiting. Imagine feeling really sick to your stomach and throwing up a lot—that’s what CHS feels like.

Key Symptoms to Watch For
1. Persistent Nausea and Vomiting: If you’re feeling nauseous and throwing up frequently, especially if it’s severe and doesn’t seem to get better, it could be a sign of CHS.

2. Abdominal Pain: Along with nausea and vomiting, CHS can also cause stomach pain.

3. Hot Showers Help: This might sound a bit odd, but many people with CHS find that taking a hot shower helps them feel a bit better, even if just temporarily.

4. Weight Loss and Dehydration: Because of the constant vomiting, people with CHS might lose weight and get dehydrated, which can make them feel even worse.

What Causes CHS?

The exact cause of CHS isn’t fully understood, but here’s what we know:

Heavy Cannabis(THC) Use: Using a lot of cannabis over a long period increases the risk of developing CHS. It doesn’t affect everyone, but it’s more common in heavy, long-term users.

Cannabinoid Receptors: Cannabis affects certain receptors in the brain and stomach. If these receptors are over-activated, it might mess with your stomach and make you feel sick.

Genetics: There might be a genetic factor that makes some people more likely to get CHS, though
more research is needed.

How is CHS Diagnosed and Treated?

Diagnosing CHS can be tricky because its symptoms are similar to other stomach problems. Doctors will usually ask about your cannabis use and might run some tests to rule out other issues.

Treatment for CHS includes:

1. Stop Using Cannabis: The most important step is to stop using cannabis. Symptoms usually improve within a few days to weeks after stopping.

2. Hydrate: Drinking fluids or getting IV fluids can help with dehydration caused by vomiting.

3. Medications: Sometimes doctors give medications to help with nausea and pain.

4. Hot Showers: As strange as it sounds, taking a hot shower might help relieve nausea temporarily.

5. Support: Dealing with CHS can be tough, and talking to a counselor or support group might help manage the stress and emotional side of things.

How to Prevent CHS

If you use cannabis, moderation is key. If you notice any symptoms of CHS, it’s crucial to cut back or stop using cannabis. Being aware of how your body reacts can help prevent CHS from happening.

Final Thoughts

Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome is a serious condition that shows how cannabis affects the body in complex ways. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms, it’s important to seek medical help and consider changing cannabis use habits. By staying informed and taking care of your health, you can avoid complications and make better choices about cannabis use.

If you’re a teen or a parent, talking openly about these issues can help everyone stay safe and healthy. Stay curious, stay informed, and take care of yourselves!

Skin Cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., and is a broad term describing an abnormal growth of cells that can spread. The areas of the body most affected are those that are exposed to the sun, but skin cancer can develop anywhere on the body. The most common cause of skin cancer is to due sun exposure, more specifically exposure to UVB radiation. This type of radiation comes from not only the sun but also sunlamps and tanning booths. Avoiding exposure to UVB radiation and using sunscreen when you are outdoors may help prevent some skin cancers from forming. There are a few common types of skin cancer that include Basal cell, Squamous Cell and Melanoma. Basal cell skin cancer is a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells. Basal cells produce new skin cells as old ones die. This cancer typically appears as a white waxy lump or a brown scaly patch on sun-exposed areas, such as the face and neck. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the skin is the second most common form of skin cancer, characterized by abnormal, accelerated growth of squamous cells. SCCs can appear as scaly red patches, open sores, rough, thickened or wart-like skin, or raised growths with a central depression. The most serious type of skin cancer is called Melanoma. Melanoma happens when the pigment-producing cells that give color to the skin become cancerous. Symptoms of this include new, unusual growth or a change in an existing mole. Treatment for skin cancer includes radiation therapy, chemotherapy, prescribed creams, and in some cases surgery to remove the cancer. Each treatment for skin cancer contains negative side effects that includefatigue, easy bruising and bleeding, infection, nausea, vomiting, anemia, weight changes, and fertility problems. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant known for its potential therapeutic effects. When you apply CBD topically, your skin absorbs it. Your skin contains cannabinoid receptors that make CBD a potential therapy for many conditions that range from dry skin to skin cancer. One study showed several cannabinoids including cannabigerol (CBG), non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidivarin (CBV) seemed to “switch off” skin cells that grow uncontrollably. Uncontrolled growth of this kind is a factor in skin allergies and skin cancers. In this study, the researchers documented the effects of these three cannabinoids on human skin cell lines. CBD was the most effective of the three in addressing unwanted DNA activity, with CBG coming in second. The researchers in the study claim Phyto cannabinoids such as CBD appear to stop detrimental DNA activity that promotes skin cancer. The Miller Healer 2000mg Tincture can be taken sublingually to help alleviate the symptoms of skin cancer. The Miller Healer 1000mg Salve Stick or Miller Healer 2000mg Cream can be applied topically to help with skin cancer as well. Always consult your primary care physician before starting a new regimen. Our team of specialists are always available to provide you with education and assist you with any questions regarding CBD

People are hit with nausea and vomiting for many reasons and on many occasions. Nausea is an unpleasant sensation of unease including an urge to vomit.

Motion sickness experienced at sea or in the air often induces vomiting, as many as 55% of pregnant women struggle with nausea during their first months of gestation and people exposed to chemical odors, offensive smells, and airborne toxins react with nausea and vomiting.

In some situations, vomiting is a positive and natural way to purge the system of poison, but severe nausea and vomiting may indicate larger problems and lead to dehydration and damage to the esophagus and digestive tract.

Nausea and vomiting are signs of appendicitis, blocked intestines, brain injury, concussion, flu, food poisoning, overeating, migraines, and more. In very serious cases, nausea and vomiting may indicate cancer, central nervous disorders, kidney problems, liver conditions and more.

Treatment for nausea includes prescribed medications called antiemetics. Medications used to treat nausea include Meclizine hydrochloride, Dimenhydrinate, Emetrol, and Bismuth subsalicylate. Each prescribed medication contains negative side effects that include blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, headache, vomiting, hyperactivity, dry mouth, ringing in the ears, fainting, weight loss, yellow eyes or skin, abdominal pain, anxiety, cold symptoms and swelling of the face, arms and legs.

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant known for its potential therapeutic effects. Studies show that CBD may help alleviate nausea without the negative side effects of prescribed medications.

The endocannabinoid system(ECS) is a unique network of neurotransmitters and receptors that exist throughout the brain and body. Functionally, it appears to regulate a variety of internal homeostatic functions. Studies suggest that manipulating the endocannabinoid system can help regulate both nausea and vomiting.

Research also suggests that CBD can work as an antiemetic for humans, as it eases the effects of nausea and may even prevent it from occurring altogether.

Our AHS 1500mg Tincture can be taken sublingually and is perfect for alleviating nausea. Always consult your primary care physician before starting a new treatment.

Our team of specialists are always available to provide you with education and assist with any questions regarding CBD.
