CBD and CBN, also known as Cannabidiol and Cannabinol. They are two of the more common cannabinoids that have been seen and identified from the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids are generally used to help us with chronic pains, anxiety, depression, and all kinds of other physical and mental struggles. Much like CBD, CBN has a lot of medical benefits, some of those being the potential to reduce pain and act as a sedative.

CBD is a non-psychoactive product, meaning that it does not give you a high or any of the mind-altering effects of THC (also known as tetrahydrocannabinol). There are different CBD products that work better for different conditions, but they truly do help make a difference for whatever condition that you may have. Along with the different conditions it can help, it also comes in different forms. There are gummies/edibles, oils and tinctures, creams and lotions, capsules/pills, and even vapes! Early studies have found that CBD may be a potential alternative to traditional medications for treating anxiety and depression.

Cannabinol, or CBN, is another cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Although it acts a lot like CBD, its origin is different, as it is the product of oxidization. Manufacturers expose THC to heat and light, which breaks it down, leaving behind CBN. Because of this, no strains of cannabis contain high levels of CBN themselves. CBN comes from the breakdown of the psychoactive cannabinoid THC, while it can be mildly psychoactive itself, it does not produce a high like THC at all. CBN is created when THC-A oxidizes. CBN can be used effectively as a sleep aid or sedative. This cannabinoid has also been shown to help regulate the immune system and works to relieve the pain and inflammation caused by several conditions, including arthritis and crohn’s disease. These chemicals have also been shown to help with neuroprotective effects. In contrast to THC, CBN has no double bond isomers nor stereoisomers. Both THC and CBN activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors, respectively.

Despite their similar names, CBD and CBN are different molecules. CBD is usually the second most common cannabinoid in a cannabis plant. Manufacturers can breed cannabis plants to have a higher amount of CBD. Manufacturers cannot directly adjust the amount of CBN in a plant, as it’s created from the breakdown of THC. Here at AHS, we carry CBD as well as CBN products. A couple examples of CBN products we carry would be our Coastal Clouds CBD:CBN Sleep Capsules.
