CBD – The Different Forms

Whether you have never taken CBD before, or you have been using it for years as a form of alternative healing, you are most likely familiar with the fact that there are MANY different types of CBD. It can be overwhelming! CBD is a non-psychoactive ,which means it does not get you “high” the way cannabis does. THat is because it does not contain THC the way marijuana does. It is important to understand the differences in these types of CBD to make the most educated decision when choosing to use CBD as a form of healing medicinally. The most popular categories of CBD are: full-spectrum, isolate, and broad spectrum.

Full Spectrum

Just as the name states, full spectrum CBD contains the FULL plant, that includes the leaves, stems, roots. By using the entire plant, full spectrum products contain more terpenes (this of essential oils in plants)

and other cannabinoids such as CBG, CBN, and trace amounts of THC. The amounts of THC found in these products are less than 0.3%.This is where all the cannabinoids and terpenes are working together in synergy, known as the “entourage effect”. Situations where people may benefit from this low dose of THC would include clients using CBD for difficulty sleeping, muscle relaxation, and epiletic seizures.

Isolate:

CBD Isolate, on the other hand, is simply purified CBD that has been extracted from the plant. This is the purest form of CBD,  produced by removing all other compounds found in the plant including terpenes, flavonoids, plant parts, and other cannabinoids. It is often labeled as “Pure CBD” and more tasteless and odorless than most CBD products. These products contain no THC. Individuals that may want isolate are those who are sensitive to THC.

Broad Spectrum:

Broad Spectrum can be thought of as a hybrid of isolate and full-spectrum,  it contains an array of cannbinioids and terpenes, but no THC (make sure to always check testing). Broad Spectrum can deliver the enhanced benefits of the “entourage effect,” without the risk of psychoactive effects of THC.

So which CBD is right for you?

No form of CBD is better or worse than the other. It all comes down to what is best for each individual.
